The short version: Follow Along collects no data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no server. Your routes stay on your phone unless you choose to share them.
The app uses your device's GPS to draw your position on the map and to record or follow routes, and the barometer to measure elevation gain. All of this is processed on your device and stored only in the app's local files. It is never transmitted to us — we have no server to send it to.
When you share a route, the entire route (waypoints, notes, and any targets) is encoded directly inside the link or QR code you create. It goes only to the people you give that link or code to. We never receive, store, or see it.
follow-along.app is a static page shown to people who open a shared
route link without the app installed. Like any website, its hosting
provider (Cloudflare) records standard technical logs of visits (such as IP
addresses). Route data in a shared link travels in the URL fragment (the
part after #), which browsers do not send to the server — so
even opening a link in a browser does not disclose the route to us.
The backup feature creates a file on your device that you can store or share however you choose. We never receive it.
Maps are provided by Apple's MapKit, which fetches map imagery from Apple subject to Apple's privacy policy. The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking code of any kind.
